TOPSoccer Buddies are volunteers who assist our athletes participate in soccer games and activities. Buddies do not "play" soccer for the player; they help our players actively participate, succeed and have fun. Buddies can be teenagers or young adults. Most Buddies are soccer players, while others have worked with children with special needs. To be a TOPSoccer Buddy, you don't have to have any previous experience, just a strong desire to enable children to have fun.
A Buddy's role includes:
* Creating opportunities for players to be successful * Providing instruction during play * Demonstrating desired skills and behaviors * Creating safe playing situations * Providing 1:1 assistance * Assisting players to focus on the activity * Ensuring that athletes understand instructions * Using touch, sign language or other cues to direct and guide players * Monitoring players for fatigue * Helping players become part of the team and have fun
